2023 came and went in the blink of an eye (we mean this almost literally) and it’s already time to ring in the New Year! Celebrating at a crowded club on December 31st can be fun, but sometimes there’s no better feeling than sitting down with your crew and watching movies until midnight. For the homebodies of the world, here’s a list of some must-watch movies and special programs this New Year’s Eve!
Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party
One of our favorite New Year’s Eve traditions is flipping the channels to watch all the holiday specials on TV. But if you don’t have cable, there’s no need to worry because some of our favorites are available live on streaming as well! Catch it live at 10:30PM ET/PT on December 31st.
CBS’ New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash on Paramount+
If country music is more your style, CBS’ Nashville Big Bash on Paramount+ is a can’t miss this New Year’s Eve. The special program airs live from 8-10 PM ET/PT and 10:30-1:30 a.m. ET/PT featuring the hottest names in country music like Kelsea Ballerini, Zac Brown Band, Little Big Town, and more!
Back that Year Up: NYE Special
This next special isn’t live programming but it’s just as chaotic. In ‘Back that Year Up: NYE Special’ comedians Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson go through the best pop culture, sports, entertainment moments of the year while giving their unfiltered commentary on the matter. The special is available on demand so you can watch it at any time.
Happy New Year, Charlie Brown!
on Apple TV+
Arguably one of the most iconic New Year’s Eve movies, this special has to be on your watchlist this weekend. Even if you didn’t grow up watching the Charlie Brown cartoons, you can’t deny the choke-hold Charlie, Snoopy, and the rest of the gang have on pop culture. This New Year’s special is perfect for families of all sizes and available on Apple TV+.
New Year’s Eve
This star-studded movie features some household names like Zac Efron, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Robert DeNiro, to name a few. For the ladies looking to host a girls night this New Year’s Eve, this film is an absolute must-watch. It’s all you could ever ask for in a rom-com, and a great alternative to the live programming route.
The Age of Adaline
You may be wondering why we added this movie since it’s not technically New Year’s related, but it’s a classic nonetheless. Blake Lively can truly do no wrong and her role ‘The Age of Adaline’ is no exception. There’s something mystical and magical about New Year’s Eve, so we think this movie is worth the watch this weekend.
While You Were Sleeping
Keeping with the rom-com theme, ‘While You Were Sleeping’ is one of our favorite guilty pleasures for the holidays. The concept is silly and little bit cheesy, but it’s heartwarming regardless. Plus, it takes place around the holidays. Watch Sandra Bullock and Peter Gallagher in this cult classic
Are We There Yet?
Every parent has heard the question, “Are we there yet?,” at some point in their child’s life making this comedy starring Ice Cube hilariously relatable. If you’re rounding out the year with little ones and the live programming can be too much for them, consider watching ‘Are We There Yet?’ on Max!
High School Musical
This series is a fan favorite for a reason. It has great music, dance numbers, and the perfect amount of romance to make your heart swell well into the new year. Not to mention Troy and Gabriella meet on New Year’s Eve at a luxurious winter lodge that you can’t help but wish you were there too.
on Prime Video
One stormy New Year’s Eve, two strangers who continuously fail at love cross paths. Is it fate? For all those who are chronically single this New Year’s Eve (we’ve all been there), this movie sparks a little bit of hope for the new year. Don’t miss the stunning Emma Roberts in ‘About Fate’ on Prime Video!
