The new year is a time of new habits, new mindsets, and new resolutions, of course. It’s when we all adopt a new skincare routine, try a new fitness regimen, or take up journaling. And yet, sticking to this can be intimidating. If you’re stuck on where to start with your New Year’s resolutions or perhaps need a little motivation to keep going, we think these movies will help.
1. Get Fit
Brittany Runs a Marathon
on Prime Video
If you’re looking to cut out unhealthy habits and start your fitness journey, you’re not alone. Adopting a fitness regimen is one of the most common resolutions, but also one of the most difficult to stick to. Let Brittany be your guide, and maybe you’ll even run a marathon or two.
2. Practice Mindfulness
Eat Pray Love
We could all be a bit more intentional and practice mindfulness for a clearer head this year. ‘Eat. Pray. Love.’ can help inspire you to do so. If you don’t feel compelled to embark on a spiritual pilgrimage to Bali after this movie, you could just sign up for a yoga or meditation class near you.
3. Reduce Your Footprint
It’s always good to remember the three Rs: reduce, reuse, and recycle. We don’t want our planet to look like WALL-E’s after all. We only get one Earth so it’s important not to take it for granted and do our part in reducing our footprints. ‘WALL-E’ is a heartfelt movie to help remind us of just this.
4. Get to Know Yourself
A new year is always a good time to do a little self-reflection and find out who we are inside. When we get caught up with work, relationships, and life in general, it can be hard to remember who you are. Dedicate some “you time” this year—’Inside Out’ will inspire you to evaluate your different emotions, interests, and personalities.
5. Take a Leap of Faith
on Prime Video
One of our favorite movies from 2023, ‘Dumb Money,’ is not only hilarious but also inspirational and pretty relatable. This movie based-on-a-true-story tells the tale of the uber-wealthy versus the working class and how great things can happen when you band together and take a leap of faith.
6. Learn a New Skill
A new year is a perfect opportunity to try something new and challenge yourself! Maybe it’s crocheting, a new sport or even cooking. You’ve got about 366 days (more or less) to polish up your skill set. Watching ‘Chef’ on Hulu might just give you the motivation to do so!
7. Stick Up for Yourself
One of the hottest movies of 2023, ‘Barbie,’ was not only silly and entertaining, but also conveyed a powerful message of self-confidence, finding your voice, and sticking up for yourself. These are all easier said than done, but with a little bit of practice and some positive affirmations, we think it’s a wonderful habit to pick up in this new year. Watch Gloria’s speech for some extra motivation.
8. Make New Friends
If you consider yourself to be a bit on the anti-social side and are looking to step out of your comfort zone this year, try opening your mind to new people. Spark conversation at a local coffee shop or gym, see if your community has any organized groups, or try downloading an app like Bumble BFF to make new friends. Watching ‘Zootopia’ on Disney+ might inspire you!
9. Drink More Water
Drinking more water isn’t necessarily new, but it never hurts to be reminded! Although you may not become a mermaid, water has insane healing properties and is vital to surviving and thriving. It can help clear your skin, give you more energy, relieve headaches, and more. Leave it to ‘Aquamarine’ to remind you to drink more water this year.
10. Cherish Every Moment
Everything Everywhere All At Once
on Prime Video
To wrap up this list of resolutions for 2024, we wanted to end on a bit of a philosophical note. Each year feels like it flies by and it’s easy to take certain moments for granted. In the award-winning film ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once,’ we see the visual representation of this and how it can affect relationships and a great reminder to cherish every moment.
